So Zoey, I have been a little lax in posting for you. No real good reason for that other than I’ve been enjoying the travels and down time when we have been settled. We packed up from Redding and we’re on the road to Eugene by 8:00. It was to be hot that day and Papa wanted to get an early start to avoid the hottest part of the day. I guess what we noticed the most was just how dry things were everywhere. As I may have said previously it felt and looked like August. One of the “ highlights” was seeing how low Shasta Lake is. I took a photo or two so that you could see the water level.
This lake is down 112 ft below full pool (the lake can be about 245 ft deep when full) about being the worst season for them in 44 years. This lake provides water for a lot of Northern California with 356 miles of shoreline which is the largest in California) and with it being a drought it is worrisome about the future of water for that area.
The next event for us was seeing more of Mt Shasta… here’s what it is supposed to look like in June…with the lake being full…
Here’s the mountain we saw..
It looks nothing like what it should :(
Oregon welcomed us into their state and several other folks were admiring the sign and welcome too.
We made it to Eugene by mid afternoon and got settled into our site. We planned to be here for the Memorial Day weekend so our reservations were for 5 days. Our park was close to the highway but very clean, spacious grassy sites and lots of activities. The camp host let us know there would be a free hotdog BBQ with local entertainment on the 31st at 6 pm. They would also host a weekend breakfast all you can eat on Saturday and Sunday for $5.
We took the time to explore some of Eugene, stock up again on some food items and do a little birding. Here are a few photos of our time there…
Had to stop for a Dutch Bro refreshment!
Found a close by wildlife area for birding..
A pond and marshy area in the background and lovely path to walk .
And look here Zoey! We found a friendly muskrat who came out of the stream to much on tender grasses!!
Some Lupines were growing. Do you have Lupines in Mississippi?
Just at the entrance to the wildlife area… the trees and grounds were stunning .
Our campground also rented Teepees!!
We also saw a Western Wood Peewee at the wildlife area. We didn’t get a photo of it but here’s what it looks like.
If your daddy has the free Merlin App you can have him play you their song and see more photos of it .
Here’s the playground Zoey at our park. I think you would have met a few kids there to play with.
Here’s a photo of the free BBQ and the music is set up under the tent .
Here’s a video of the muskrats !!! Very unusual that they would not be afraid of us!!
We left Eugene early Tuesday morning the first of June. So far Oregon has been GREEN compared to all the trip getting here Zoey. By now your daddy is in Idaho getting things ready for you and your mommy. And happy happy birthday to your mommy today June 3rd!!!🎂🎈🎉
